This is what a farmer should look like

2015 Tutu Fellow Mosunmola Cynthia Umora told her TEDx audience Ife, Nigeria about how she was broke, in debt and being called a failure as a startup farmer and entrepreneur.  Her advice: "Identify that reason, that purpose for which you have been created, and stick with it."  It is the only thing that will get you through those periods when the road is tough. 

She is a distinct type of farmer. For her, agriculture is a mainstay of the Nigerian economy and yet there is so little regard paid to it. Cynthia founded a company engaged in farming, food production, processing and distribution right out of college. The company has its flagship retail outlet under the Farmshoppe , a retail brand for freshly processed, organic farm produce.

Chetan Jeeva joined Investec in 2006 as a deal maker in the Structured and Leveraged Finance team responsible for originating and executing large leveraged and structured finance transactions primarily in South Africa. He has been involved in a number of landmark transactions in the SA Private Equity space. Prior to this, Chetan spent a year in Private Equity with RMB Corvest / Safika Investments and in development finance at the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa for a period of five years. Chetan completed his articles with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Dr Tariro Makadzange is an infectious disease physician scientist. Her research training and career have focused on infectious diseases (primarily HIV infection and related opportunistic infections). Her current work focuses on understanding the immune correlates of HIV disease progression in perinatally infected children and adolescents, as well as the immunopathogenesis of cryptococcal disease in HIV infected adults.

Her vast experience includes working as a Counsel at Ashoka, Office of West Africa; deputy head intellectual property at the firm of George Ikoli & Okagbue; senior manager at the Negotiation and Conflict Management Group (NCMG); associate at the Boston Public Health Commission; a Boston based Global Biotechnology firm - Genzyme Corporation; adjunct professor at the College of Management at University of Massachusetts Boston. At Genzyme Corporation Ify successfully developed strategic documents used in expanding the Global Market Access tactic in Latin America; Asia, and Europe.
