Vision

AFLI’s vision is to build a critical mass of visionary, strategic, self-aware and ethical leaders across the continent who together become the catalysts for change and transformation of Africa.

Mission

AFLI is dedicated to identifying, nurturing and equipping Africa’s future leaders with experiences, insights, and tools so that African-led solutions are developed to address Africa’s challenges. The Institute provides a platform for a diverse network of young African leaders to engage in peer-to-peer learning, accountability and cross-border collaborations. Working with a select group of partners, leading academics and accomplished global leaders, AFLI facilitates opportunities for young leaders to create a new Africa.

Tutu Fellowship Values

Openness and Respect:
We bring curiosity and respect for every person’s perspective, with compassion, empathy and a willingness to share our own transparently. We cultivate self-awareness by giving and receiving candid feedback. We are committed to real dialogue that enables us to empathise with different points of view.

Integrity and Courage
We strive to lead with courageous authenticity – taking a stand for our truth, even under duress - always recognising that there is a time to act, and a time to withdraw. We cultivate the resilience to risk failure, and the courage to take accountability, humbly, for our own failings.

Ubuntu
We recognise our interconnectedness and interdependence and seek win-win, inclusive outcomes. We commit to creating environments where all human beings, regardless of ethnicity, race, gender, religion, sexual preference, social status or cultural background, can thrive.

Passion and Positive Impact
We engage with focussed energy and commitment in all that we do, living our full potential and inspiring others to do the same. We hold ourselves to account for having a positive impact in pursuit of our mission. And seek to celebrate life and humanity with joy.

Higher Purpose
We value our capacity to be ‘deeply disturbed’ and have a passionate desire to to achieve positive transformation in Africa and to change what we can, to enable Africa to share its unique source of magic with the world.

These values are updated by AFLI in conjunction with the Fellowship. See a previous meeting on this on the AFLI YouTube Channel.
