Two Tutu Fellows are on the list of the Africa Youth Awards 2019 100 Most Influential Young Africans. The list, which was published on 02 October, recognises young Africans whose work has impacted lives across the continent. The two Fellows on the 2019 list were Rachel Nyaradzo Adams, who was in the Tutu Fellows Class of 2011; and, Nozipho Mbanjwa who was in last year's Class.
The list - which is now in it's fourth year - is comprised of people from 32 countries and celebrates the work of young Africans passionate about changing the narrative of their continent.
Among the 2019 honourees are Burna Boy, African Union Youth Envoy; Aya Chebbi, Sierra Leone’s First Lady; Fatima Maada Bio, a Global Teacher prize winner; Roberta Annan, the Governor of Nandi County, and Sudanese activist Alaa Salah. Rachel and Nozipho join other Tutu Fellows who have made the list in past years, including Samson Itodo, who made the 2017 list and Simbarashe Mhuriro, who made the 2016 list.
To be eligible for consideration, one must be 40 years or younger, African, demonstrate leadership, innovation, creativity, or entrepreneurship, and be nominated within a category. Categories include Law and Governance, Business, Sport, Academia, Science and Technology, Social Enterprise, Civil Society, Entertainment, and Lifestyle.
Rachel is the founder of Narachi Leadership, which seeks to develop the ranks of leadership across Africa by providing African leaders with the tools to accelerate their own development. She is a Mandela Rhodes Scholar, a Mellon Mays Fellow and a Felix Scholar. Nozipho is a global moderator and the co-founder of The Talent Firm. She has moderated panels for the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the UN and its organs and multinationals operating in Africa. She is a Young African Leadership Initiative Fellow.
