Job Title: Managing Editor

Organisation: Research Finds News

Professional History: Deo Arinaitwe Rugyendo PhD, is a communications scholar, media entrepreneur, media trainer and strategic communications consultant at the intersection of political economy of media and marketing communication mix. His distinguished career spans 27 years as reporter Uganda’s Daily Monitor, Founding Editor at Red Pepper newspaper and now currently as Managing Editor at www.researchfindsnews.com. Arinaitwe is a leading authority on the media transitions from traditional to digital-first ecosystems and the broader transformation of the press in eastern Africa.

His expertise and scholarly contributions, notably his doctoral work at Makerere University in Uganda, have proffered a diagnostic roadmap for the traditional print press through an analytic on the evolution, adoption and contribution of ePapers in the Ugandan press – all data-driven insights germane to the navigation of a rapidly shifting global information economy.

Arinaitwe's latest innovation in the field of media is an online news outlet – Research Finds News - that bridges the gap between academic research, policy, and industry using a newsification model. It blends academic rigor with journalistic flair to promote public understanding of complex scientific research. His leadership at ResearchFindsNews has seen the translation of intricate scientific research outputs in journals and libraries into accessible narratives that drive social impact and an informed citizenship in both the policy environment and private sectors.

His talent for building consensus extends to his work in government relations, where he acts as a strategic interlocutor between state institutions, private sector innovators, and grassroots communities.

Arinaitwe is dedicated to future-proofing the next generation of African scientists, critical thinkers, innovators, creative thinkers and problem solvers. As the founder and board chairman of the African school of Innovations Science and Technology which runs the Young Engineers programme, he has pioneered STEM education programs in Uganda that utilize robotics and high-tech curricula to nurture critical thinking in children. His vision of a tech-driven and empowered African society is now at the centre of his upcoming book, "Resetting Uganda: A Future History of the Pearl of Africa", which proposes a bold structural and technological reform for the nation.

As a holder of a PhD in Journalism and Communication from Makerere University and Master of Science in Marketing from Salford University, Manchester, Arinaitwe continues to shape the future of African media, ensuring that it remains resilient, research-led, and deeply connected to the cultural fabric of the continent.

In November 2017, while an editorial director at Red Pepper newspaper, he was charged with treason together with eight others for publishing a story deemed to have had the potential of causing war between Uganda and Rwanda as well as annoying the person of President Yoweri Museveni, his brother, General Salim Saleh and Security Minister General Henry Tumukunde. The editors were all acquitted of the charges after serving 3 months in prison. In 2019, the Rwandan government closed its main border points in Uganda for what it deemed were hostile actions from its northern neighbour.

Arinaitwe is currently the Board Chairman of the Uganda Premier League and runs a consultancy at Streamline Consults Limited.
