Professional History: Samson Kironde is a global health expert and development consultant with over 25 years of experience in health programming across more than 15 countries in Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Sustainable Development Systems Africa (SDS), a Uganda-based organisation providing bespoke solutions in public health, strategic information, knowledge management, medical product supply chain management, and capacity development.
Samson holds a doctorate in public health and epidemiology from the University of Oxford and a bachelor of medicine and surgery from Makerere University, Uganda. He has led five large USAID-funded programmes as chief of party, including the Uganda Health Systems Strengthening Activity, the Uganda Program for Human and Holistic Development, and the Strengthening TB and HIV&AIDS Responses in East Central Uganda programme. His work has spanned HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, reproductive and maternal health, nutrition, education, and health systems strengthening.
He has provided consultancy services to a wide range of organisations including Africa CDC, the African Union Commission, UNICEF, UNAIDS, WHO, the World Bank, and the Global Fund. He currently serves as national secretary for the Rhodes Scholarship for East Africa, working with the Rhodes Trust to annually select a scholar from the East African constituency.
Samson has authored publications in several peer-reviewed journals and has presented at local and international conferences. He is a Rhodes Scholar from Uganda, an Archbishop Desmond Tutu Leadership Fellow, a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Foundation, and a recipient of fellowships from the Sir Halley Stewart Trust and the 21st Century Trust.
