Organisation: African Leadership Institute and Niven Postma, Inc
Professional History: Niven Postma is the Programme Director of the African Leadership Institute's Tutu Fellowship Programme, and is also the MD of Niven Postma Inc. In her role at AFLI, she will steer the Tutu Fellowship Programme, and ensure it remains the foremost leadership programme designed specifically for Africa’s highest potential future leaders.
Niven has worked as a strategy, leadership and culture consultant and facilitator for clients in South Africa, the UK, Germany, Scandinavia, and Australia, in industries as diverse as financial services, professional services, media, petrochemicals, retail, and manufacturing. She also lectures at Henley Business School and on various global leadership development programmes and is the author of the book “If you don’t do politics, politics will do you – A guide to navigating politics ethically and successfully.
Prior to the consulting phase of her career, Niven occupied a number of executive and leadership roles that included: Head, Leadership, and Culture for the Standard Bank Group during that organisation’s strategy cascade which spanned all the countries where the Group operates and all 55 000 employees; Head of the South African Reserve Bank Academy, responsible for the delivery of all learning and leadership development programmes across SARB; Head of External Strategy at the South African Reserve Bank; Chief Executive Officer of NOAH (Nurturing Orphans of AIDS for Humanity), one of the largest children’s NGOs in South Africa; Chief Executive Officer of the Businesswomen’s Association (BWASA), the largest association of business and professional women in South Africa; Consultant with the global strategy consulting firm Monitor Company, where she worked for three years on cases for clients that spanned mining, retail, healthcare and government, in South Africa, Boston and Turkey.
