Job Title: Head: Communications, Sub-Saharan Africa
Organisation: TikTok
Professional History: Keagile Makgoba is the Head of Communications for Sub-Saharan Africa at TikTok. Her work involves driving strategic communications efforts on the continent, translating complex technological frameworks, policy understanding for the layman while showcasing and celebrating the positive economic, cultural and social impact that platforms like TikTok present. Keagile’s work involves engaging various stakeholders across media, users, government and civil society groups to gain an understanding of knowledge gaps that need to be filled through campaigns and education efforts, while building relationships and partnerships for impact.
As an African leader operating at the critical intersection of platform innovation, digital trust, and Africa’s burgeoning creator economy, she has spent over four years building the platform’s communications function across the region.
Utilising strategic communications concepts, Keagile has led award-winning campaigns such as TikTok’s Digital Well-being Summit & campaign, bringing together media, creators, government & regulators as well as civil society groups to drive conversations around positive online habits that fight bullying and mental health challenges.
More broadly, she led the conceptualisation of TikTok’s #SaferTogether strategy in the Sub-Saharan African region, which guides the platform’s safety initiatives to date.
Prior to joining TikTok, Keagile worked as a consultant at Instinctif Partners, a global firm specializing in investor relations and corporate communications. In this capacity, she provided strategic guidance to C-suite executives, assisting them in navigating their stock exchange listing ambitions across South Africa, Botswana, and the United Kingdom. Before this, she was in Corporate Communications at South Africa's MultiChoice, a pay-TV broadcaster now owned by CANAL+.
Her excellence has been recognized through numerous prestigious accolades such as being the winner of the TransUnion South African Rising Star in Media (2025), the TikTok Extra Mile Award (2025), recognized internally for combining creativity with tangible operational advancement. The creative industry also recognises the value she brings to the table as she played a role in serving as a judge for the 2025 Effie Awards South Africa and the Annual Youth-Owned Brand Awards.
A firm believer in "paying it forward," Keagile is a dedicated alumna and mentor for the Youth Leadership and Entrepreneurship Development (YLED) program. She actively supports the Lincoln Mali Leadership Foundation, recently supporting its communications efforts in South Africa.
Annually, Keagile plays a role as one of the Business Consulting Project Partners for the University of Pretoria’s Gordons Institute of Business Science’s (GIBS) Full Time Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration programme.
From speaking at Uber’s "Silicon Savannah" event in 2025 to mentoring young women through AfriMasterclass, founded by Zamani Ndimande, Keagile continues to give back to South Africa’s youth, advocating for mentorship and sponsorship.
