2017 Tutu Fellow Mimi Kalinda is launching her new book, Echoes of Influence: Harnessing the Power of Storytelling as a Leadership Strategy.
She says the book is a culmination of her decades-long journey through the world of strategic communication and personal transformation in which she discovered that storytelling is not just an art form but a pivotal strategy in business and leadership.
Her professional path in media and communications across different continents saw her founding Africa Communications Media Group (ACG). She says ACG provided a platform to transform how Africa communicates, not just internally but with the world, by leveraging authentic narratives to reshape perceptions and drive meaningful engagement. ACG is one of Africa’s leading pan-African public relations and communications agencies, and is headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa. It supports clients across Sub-Saharan Africa that include the MTN Group, the Global Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), Roche Pharmaceuticals and Diagnostics, Wikimedia Foundation, ONE Campaign, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the African Development Bank (AfDB), Ethiopian Airlines, Barloworld, IFC/the World Bank, the Mastercard Foundation, HID Global (China), and more.
Successes at ACG inspired her to establish Storytelling & Leadership, where she could provide coaching and enable leaders worldwide to harness storytelling in their strategies. It also provided the raw material - and lessons - for Echoes of Influence. Mimi says this book is not just a reflection of her professional journey, but a guide to help leaders everywhere on how to use storytelling to enhance their influence and achieve substantial, lasting impact. It can empower readers to lead with conviction and inspire action through their narrative.
She says effective storytelling transcends traditional leadership techniques, helping leaders to engage, inspire, and drive significant change. The book includes practical advice, frameworks, and real-world examples.
