The CEO of All On, 2015 Tutu Fellow Wiebe Boer is helping to build access to affordable sustainable energy for low income households, small business, and communities. All On is an independent impact investing company. As part of its approach it has also provided a grant to the acclaimed Nigerian tech incubator, Co-Creation Hub, to challenge Nigeria’s innovators on energy. Co-Creation Hub is run by 2017 Tutu Fellow 'Bosun Tijani.
Boer's company obtained seed funding from Shell for impact investing. He explained that this initial set of transactions demonstrated his company's commitment to a market-based approach to making a sustainable impact in the off-grid energy sector in partnership with global and local market leaders. He went on to say that it marked the start of a series of investments in improving access to energy in Nigeria for the tens of millions of off-grid households and Small and Medium Enterprises (SME's) across the country. About 28 million households in Nigeria are either without power or able to obtain less than four hours of electricity a day.
In parallel with the investments, All On's grant to 'Bosun Tijani's tech ideation incubator, Co-Creation Hub, is designed to jump-start tech ideas in the energy space. The challenge is to engage Nigeria’s technology innovation ecosystem on access to energy.
Additional equity investments include Lumos Global BV, the fastest growing “distributed utility” in West Africa; and, a grant agreement with Solar Nigeria to further de-risk investments made by All On in solar home systems. Other plans include equity and debt investments in mini grid operations.
Bosun Tijani said that he hoped to unearth amazing enterprises to meet the energy needs and aspirations of Nigerians.
