2019 Fellow, entrepreneur, investor and now author, Sangu Delle, is on tour for the release of his highly anticipated first book, Making Futures: Young Entrepreneurs in a Dynamic Africa. The book tells the story of a dynamic Africa through the eyes of some of its youngest and most promising entrepreneurs. A Tutu Fellow is also profiled.
The 17 entrepreneurs profiled are already shaping Africa’s future and creating prosperity for millions in fields such as healthcare and energy, film and TV, Advertising and agribusiness.
From Eric Muthomi in Kenya, who has built a successful business creating multipurpose flour from bananas to feed babies, to Farida Bedwei, co-founder of the largest microfinance banking software platform in Ghana, Delle tells the story of these extraordinary women and men who are building innovative business and not-for-profit enterprises.
In his engaging and intimate style, Sangu provides a glimpse of the history and political economy of each country, detailing a thriving business environment whilst challenging the simplistic “Africa Rising” narrative.
The Tutu Fellowship family is touched on in the book - one of the entrepreneurs featured is 2016 Fellow Dorothy Ghettuba, who is the CEO and Co-founder of Spielworks Media. Aside from the award-winning work Dorothy has been doing with her company, she was appointed by Netflix to manage International Originals for Europe, Middle East and Africa; and the same year, appointed to chair the Kenya Film Commission by President Kenyatta. The Fellowship touches the book in another way - it is published by the independent award-winning African publisher, Cassava Republic Press, which was founded by 2008 Tutu Fellow Bibi Bakare-Yusuf.
