2009 Tutu Fellow James Mwangi - along with several other Fellows - are helping the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) with the logistics of receiving donations and accelerating the distribution of supplies across the continent.

The group is helping to Africa CDC with the logistics of receiving donations and accelerating the distribution of supplies. James is the Executive Director of the Dalberg Group, a consulting group with extensive contacts across the continent. 

The Africa CDC has received a number of donations of medical equipment and supplies from the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation that arrrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. These donations are to support COVID-19 response by African Union Member States.

One donation included 4.6 million masks, 500,000 swabs and test kits, 300 ventilators, 200,000 sets of protective clothing, 200,000 face shields, 2,000 temperature guns, 100 body temperature scanners, and 500,000 pairs of gloves. 2009 Tutu Fellow Madji Sock is overseeing a Dalberg team embedded with Africa CDC; and Robin Miller, a 2019 Fellow, is coordinating with Alibaba and helping to implement their commitment. 

Africa CDC is a specialized technical institution of the African Union which supports member states to strengthen health systems and improve surveillance, emergency response, prevention and control of diseases.
