The Tutu Fellows and AFLI’s network of contacts across the continent have been very active over the last couple of months, seeking and identifying Africa’s highest potential emerging leaders to nominate them for the prestigious Tutu Leadership Fellowship. The Tutu Leadership Fellowship is arguably the best leadership programme designed specifically for Africa’s emerging leaders in the age range 25-39 from all sectors of society, and as such, the all-expenses paid Fellowship is a highly sought after award. Only once candidates have been nominated may they submit an application for the Fellowship.

The deadline for submission of nominations closed earlier in December, by which stage there were close to 300 nominations of Africa’s finest young leaders. They have been invited to apply for the Tutu Fellowship. Nominees cover 38 different African countries, and all sectors – government, business, entrepreneurs, social workers, activists, academics, professionals and many others.

Thank you to our diligent Fellows and circle of trusted nominators for helping us identify Africa’s exceptional young leaders. In the last three days before the deadline, around 150 nominations flooded in!

Competition will be strong for the 18 selected places. Applications have to be submitted by 15th January, whereafter a distinguished 7-person selection panel, who have been involved with the programme for many years, will make the final selection after a rigorous and thorough selection process. The award winners will be announced at the end of February. The selected Fellows will be joined on the programme by 6 candidates nominated by programme sponsors.

The first workshop of the 2016 Tutu Leadership Fellowship will be held at the Mont Fleur Conference Centre, which is set in the mountains near Stellenbosch, South Africa, from 23rd to 30th April. The second, 10-day workshop will be held at Oxford University and in London at the beginning of September.

For the successful candidates this could be a life-changing experience.
