A number of Tutu Fellows attended the 2017 World Economic Forum, which was held in Durban, South Africa, this year, as Young Global Leaders with the WEF; in their personal capacities; or as invited speakers. Thirty seven Tutu Fellows are Young Global Leaders. More than a thousand people attended the event from more than 100 countries, including many leaders and several heads of state.

The Fellows included Victor Ochen, Bright Simons, Monica Musonda, Landry Signe, and others.  2008 Tutu Fellow Elsie Kanza is also to be congratulated for the event as Senior Director and Head of Africa at WEF.

Ochen is a 2011 Tutu Fellow and a Nobel Peace nominee and was a speaker and part of a panel that included Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, the former president of the African Development Bank, the head of Oxfam, and Hollywood actor Forest Whittaker, who spoke on work being done in South Sudan. Other Tutu Fellows who were speakers included Monica Musonda, who appeared on a panel on Africa's Food Paradox. Musonda is a 2013 Fellow and she has spoken on the importance of Africans participating in their own economies.  2010 Fellow Bright Simons was on a panel discussing start-ups and entrepreneurship in Africa called Africa's Unicorn Effect.  The panel explored the links between agriculture, economies, and food security. And 2015 Fellow Landry Signe (below) appeared on a panel titled Green, Both or What? that tackled climate change.  Another attendee was Aidan Eyakuze, a 2006 Tutu Fellow, an economist and an AFLI board member.
