Professional History:
Klenam is a communication and international development specialist, serving as Head of Delivery at the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat. AfCFTA is one of the Flagship projects of Agenda2063. It aims to accelerate the implementation of the AfCFTA Agreement and boost intra-African trade. It affirms Africa's trading position in the global market by strengthening Africa's voice in global trade negotiations and bringing together the 55 countries of the African Union and eight Regional Economic Communities. At AfCFTA, she crafts speeches for the Secretary-General, Wamkele Mene. Within the Secretariat, she has conducted a comprehensive analysis of the implementation policies of State Parties, contextualising them within the existing policy frameworks of the AfCFTA Agreement. She identified strengths, gaps, and shortfalls, and made recommendations to bridge the gaps to accelerate implementation of the Agreement.
Previously, she served as the Communication Adviser to the former Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission. Here, her roles included the AUC COVID-19 Taskforce Focal Person, introducing tools to ensure the timely completion of tasks and engaging in high-level meetings.
Klenam's career also includes establishing Ghana's first fintech company that offered interoperability services, serving two former Presidents of the Republic of Ghana in various capacities and being a consultant at the Institute of Development Studies in the United Kingdom. She also helped to developed the "Read Ghana" social franchise scheme that touched the lives of more than 20,000 children.
