Professional History: Simbarashe Mhungu is the Chief Operating Officer of CBZ Agro Yield, a position he has held since 2019. CBZ Agro Yield is the largest agriculture financing entity in Zimbabwe and one of the largest in Africa. Simba manages a $500 million (USD) portfolio that supports over 60,000 farmers across various value chains, including grains, livestock, citrus, and horticulture. Under his leadership, the portfolio has enabled Zimbabwe to produce more than two million metric tons of wheat, maize, and soybeans between 2020 and 2023, making it one of the few countries in Africa to be self-sufficient in grain production. Simba also oversees the operations, risk management, and stakeholder engagement of CBZ Agro Yield, ensuring the sustainability and scalability of its impact.
Prior to his work at CBZ, he was Executive Director at Hillside Financial Group (HFG) Advisory, a strategy and finance consulting firm serving global clients across industries and geographies. He served in this role for 7 years. Simba advised clients, including Fortune 500 entities, on market entry into various African countries, including structuring some of Africa’s largest agribusiness transactions.
In the US, he’s worked for the Walt Disney Company in Orlando Florida, where he introduced prominent African beverages and shows to Disney’s theme parks and hotels. He has been featured on BBC World News commenting on African capital markets and Africa-China trade and debt dynamics. Simba has been a keynote speaker at the World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington DC and is the Co-Founder of the African Youth Commission, now one of the largest independent youth focused organizations in Africa. He began his career as an investment banker in the equities division of Goldman Sachs in New York.
