Professional History: Geci is an Associate Professor at the Wits School of Governance. Prior to this, she was the Executive Manager at the South African Cities Network, a position she held since 2011.
Kenyan-born, she has been a faculty member at SingularityU, with a focus on urban futures, including smart cities, networks, urban planning, governance, and development, as well as innovation systems. She has also been the South African Coordinator of an African Development Bank Study on the 4th Industrial Revolution and the Future of Work in Africa as part of ACET - the African Centre for Economic Transformation. In 2019, she was appointed by the Minister of Higher Education & Training to an eight-person team tasked with providing a report and advice on managing both the threats and opportunities afforded by 4IR to South Africa.
Previously, Geci was a Specialist at the South Africa National Treasury (Neighborhood Development Programme, Budget Office and has worked with numerous organizations including the Council for Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), Human Science Research Council (HSRC), and the Advanced Policy Institute of the then- UCLA School of Public Policy and Social Research in Los Angeles, California.
Geci also serves as a founding director for the South African Node of the Millennium Project, is an Associate of the Institute for Economic Research on Innovation, and is an appointed Council Member of the South African Council for Planners. She is a co-Founder of Foresight For Development; an Associate Editor for the African Journal for Science, Technology, Innovation and Development; and Africa Regional Editor for the bimonthly publication, Foresight: The journal of futures studies, strategic thinking, and policy.
She serves on the Board of the Open Institute.
