Professional History: Folawe Omikunle is the Chief Executive Officer of Teach For Nigeria, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building a movement of leaders who will eliminate inequity in education. Since 2016, Teach for Nigeria has recruited and placed almost 2,000 of Nigeria’s most talented graduates to teach in more than 300 underserved schools in Nigeria.
A social entrepreneur with more than 10 years of experience in education, development, non-profit management, fundraising, and sustainability, she has received a number of awards and been recognised for the work she has done. This includes being one of the Top 10 Finalists nominated for the Africa Education Medal in 2022; named one of the 100 most inspiring Nigerian women by Leading Ladies Africa; one of the 60 most inspiring and impactful women in Nigeria in 2020; won the HER Network Education Woman of the Year award in 2018; and the Arclight Foundation Woman of the Year in Education award.
Folawe sits on a number of Boards and Advisory Councils, that include Nigeria Breweries Education Trust Fund, The Blind Society of Nigeria, Global School Leaders and the Teach For All, Africa Advisory Council. She was a pioneer Fellow of the Africa Philanthropy Systems Change Program and participated in the Women Emerging Leadership Expedition.
Folawe firmly believes that Nigeria and the rest of Africa will only reach their greatest potential by educating and investing in its human capital. This has been at the core of how she operates as an individual, and collectively with others.
