Job Title: Partner at Breega
Melvyn Lubega is a partner at Breega, one of the fastest-growing early-stage VC funds in Europe and Africa, with over EUR500 million in assets under management to invest in disruptive companies that solve significant economic and social challenges. During his double Masters at Oxford, he received a distinction for his research into disruptive technologies in emerging markets. Melvyn has advised leading enterprises and governments in more than 10 countries across the Middle East and Africa, beginning when he worked with Boston Consulting Group, joining as one of their first consultants in the region in 2011.
Prior to his role at Breega, he was a Co-founder and Director of Go1, a large corporate education content hub for on-demand training and resources. He built and scaled the company to attract more than $400 million in investment from leading tier-1 investors. He says the company was started by his co-founders in a garage in Australia as a web development company.
He advocated for SA Startup Act, which aims to bolster South Africa as a destination for ambitious tech entrepreneurs. It was passed in 2021.
He serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director of JSE-listed Adcorp Holdings Limited; and, as a commitment to 'paying it forward', he serves as a board member of Endeavor and on the board of governors at St John’s College.
He is a Rhodes Scholar and an Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Fellow.
