Professional History

January Makamba is also a member of the ruling party's influential National Executive Committee (NEC). Prior to joining the government, Mr. Makamba worked with the Carter Center, an initiative led by President Jimmy Carter. Mr. Makamba's prior experiences included work with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) by securing an International Human Rights Fellowship. After his time with the Carter Center and UNHCR, Mr. Makamba moved back to Tanzania and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a Foreign Service Officer. After the then Foreign Minister of Tanzania, Mr. Jakaya Kikwete, won the presidential elections in 2005, Mr. Makamba joined the administration as President Kikwete's senior aide.Recently, Mr. Makamba launched the Bumbuli Development Corporation which is seen as an innovative model to foster economic development in his constituency.
