Hopewell Chin'ono wins anti-corruption award

2008 Tutu Fellow Hopewell Chin'ono was honoured as a winner of the International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award in Doha, Qatar.  The Zimbabwean journalist and muckraker received the award from the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in the presence of the UN Special Advocate for the Prevention of Corruption. 

Also present at the ceremony was the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, and Under Secretary General, Ghada Waly.

AFLI Founders honoured by the University of the Western Cape

AFLI Founders Peter Wilson and Sean Lance were honoured by the University of the Western Cape at the UWC's gala ceremony on 30 November 2022 at which gold medals and honorary doctorates were conferred. The UWC held a dedicated gala ceremony to recognise individuals who have acted with excellence and distinction to improve the lives of others.

Sean and Peter received gold medals for the work they have done in establishing the African Leadership Institute and investing in young leaders of Africa through the Tutu Leadership Fellowship.

AFLI Receives Award at the Reykjavik Global Forum – Women Leaders

It was a double honour for me to be invited to serve as a Co-Chair of the 2022 Reykjavík Global Forum – Women Leaders and then to receive the Power, Together Award on behalf of the African Leadership Institute and the Archbishop Tutu Leadership Fellowship.

The award recognizes exemplary initiatives and movements where people join forces to create positive impacts and create great change.

Three Fellows selected for MIPAD Global Top 100 2022

Three Fellows have been selected for the MIPAD Global Top 100 2022 list. MIPAD is short for Most Influential People of African Descent.  The three Fellows honored by this selection are 2018 Fellow Hassanatu Mansaray Phd; 2019 Fellow Marcia Ashong; and, 2020 Fellow Olamide 'Kola' Aina.

The list, which is published every year and dates back to 2017, honors influential Africans under the age of 40.  The lists began being developed following the UN's General Assembly Resolution in support of the International Decade for People of African Descent and are usually published to coincide with the opening of the UN General Assembly in New York in September and October.
