Fellows raise donations for relief aid for Cyclone Idai


Tutu Fellows came together and made donations to assist in the relief of victims of the catastrophic Cyclone Idai. Cyclone Idai swept through Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe, leaving behind a trail of destruction, and killing more than 1,300 people. Strong winds and widespread flooding ripped apart roads, bridges, houses, schools and health facilities and submerged vast swathes of agricultural land. It was the deadliest tropical cyclone recorded in the South West Indian basin, making landfall in Mozambique in April.

2014 Fellow Linda Kasonde rallied the Fellows behind this immediate cause, raising more than a thousand Pounds Sterling. Inspired by the Tutu Fellows efforts, billionaire businessman, philanthropist and founder of Econet Wireless, Strive Masiyiwa, offered to triple the donation raised by the Fellows. Strive is a former Chairman of the AFLI South Africa Board.
