Fellows rally support for a Mrs South Africa entrant

2017 Fellow Nkuli Bogopa, is one of the finalists of the Mrs South Africa pageant. Her journey has had the full support of the Tutu Fellows, who have come out in helping Nkuli realize her dream through various sponsorships.

Four Tutu Fellows that have been extremely supportive in helping Nkuli achieve her dream to become Mrs SA. Sam Mensah, founder of KISUA, sponsored Nkuli with outfits for the big day, Dr. Theo Mothoa-Frendo with USO skincare, Tshepo Ditshego, CEO of Fundi, with a silver sponsorship and, finally, Dr. Cephas Chikanda with an event sponsorship. Many other Fellows have showed their support by voting.  Nkuli is the Executive Director at Broll Property Group.

Below is Nkuli’s message calling for everyone to support her in her journey towards becoming Mrs. SA, and the community project that she has embarked on.

“I wish to take the opportunity to highlight my reasons for participating in Mrs. SA pageant. My tag line on this journey is “enabling a dream for a dream.” I will be using this platform to enable the hopes & dreams of those who have less agency, through my sphere of access & influence. I have partnered with a sponsor, through whom we can offer bursary opportunities for higher education as well as property investment education for Black women. Above all, to extend my voice beyond property circles to highlight the importance of property ownership as a lever to financial freedom to ordinary South Africans. I am asking for your help in building a house for someone I know & hope you can assist. It is a platform to highlight to young girls that you can be an instrument of change for your industry/country, without neglecting your own dreams. An opportunity to remind women that you don’t need to bury your dreams when you become a mother or a wife.

If I was running the Comrade’s Marathon, mounting Kilimanjaro or participating on the Argus cycling competition, I’d probably get more support, and NO questions asked, about why I’m doing that… but I’ve had to field many questions about this particular journey and I am very proud to say it is because this is MY “thing” - my Dream. I am not ashamed of my dreams and I will use it as an opportunity to become an agent of positive change, as I’ve always been. I am eternally grateful for your support.”

Nkuli has always been a champion for children’s rights, particularly in relation to education. In 2018, Nkuli raised R99,000.00 for the children’s orchestra at St. Matthews School in Soweto, all in a space of two weeks.

The crowning of new Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa will take place at Emperors palace on the 8th of November. The newly crowned Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa 2020 will become an ambassador for the organisation and its sponsors and represent South Africa internationally at Mrs World.

Well done, Nkuli!
