2018 Fellow and founder of MathsGee, Edzai Zvobwo, has been selected as a Champion for Agenda 2063 during an advocacy ceremony in Johannesburg, South Africa, hosted by the African Union Development Agency - NEPAD. He is one of five distinguished champions recognised for their entrepreneurial actions, resilience, and activities in progressing towards the goal of Agenda 2063.

NEPAD (now rebranded to AUDA) targeted 2019 as the year in which it popularises #Agenda2063 through #TheAfricaWeWant campaign to serve the African people.

Several high profile Africans joined hands with AUDA to help them champion and increase the promotion and awareness on the African-owned and led continent agenda for transformation.

Edzai believes that Africa has the capacity to solve its issues, given the rich philosophical and cultural diversity on the continent. He is convinced that Africa's people need to be trained to become prolific problem solvers and that subjects like mathematics and coding can be used as vehicles to achieve social and economic upliftment of Africans. Ultimately, that mathematical problem solving, motivation, leadership and creativity form the basis for social and economic upliftment for any community. Earlier in 2019, Edzai launched a crowdsourced online maths learning program to promote crowd-sourced mathematics knowledge and activity.

The ceremony in which Edzai was recognised took place at a ceremony in Johannesburg on 11 April 2019. The winners were chosen by a panel of six judges, headed by the AUDA-NEPAD Goodwill Ambassador for TB and Nutrition, Yvonne Chaka Chaka. The winning essays were selected based on innovative ideas, creativity, originality and applicability of proposed solutions to the continent’s challenges.
