Appointment of Tafadzwa Taruvinga as AFLI Alumni Manager


The African Leadership Institute  is pleased to announce the appointment of Tafadzwa Taruvinga to the position of Alumni Manager effective 15 May 2024. Versatile, Tafadzwa brings a unique set of skills gained from capacity-building, commercial, and literary disciplines. He is passionate about fostering thought leadership on the African continent through learning and development, academic research, and literature.

 

Tafadzwa is a registered training facilitator with seven years’ experience in designing and delivering 30+ accredited professional courses in personal development, finance, and management. Working in partnership with leading service providers in South Africa, he upskills teams and enhances leadership skills and job performance within public and private institutions.

He is a 2010 – 2012 alumnus of the Afrika Kommt Fellowship, which is coordinated by GIZ and funded by German partner companies. While he was on the programme, he worked at ZF Friedrichshafen AG in Schweinfurt. There, he redesigned an intranet portal and created its new content in English and German.

Tafadzwa holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Economics and Management from Rhodes University, a Master of Arts degree in Creative Writing (with Distinction) from the University of the Witwatersrand, and other postgraduate qualifications.

He thoroughly enjoys cycling, reading and writing. He is the author of The Educated Waiter: Memoir of an African Immigrant and Gone With The Blue Zodiac – his debut novel. Chapter One of The Educated Waiter has been included in The South African Council for English Education's 49th anthology to examine 6 000 scholars in the 2024 SA English Olympiad.

His short story Small Housing has been longlisted in the top 15 of 389 entries from 24 countries for the Afritondo Short Story Prize, and published in an anthology titled The Anatomy of Flying Things. He is writing his first children's book in his mother tongue, chiShona of Zimbabwe.
