In the wake of Archbishop Tutu's death - AFLI's Patron - AFLI and the Fellowship discussed how they would uphold his legacy within the Fellowship. In 2022, the Board ratified the revisited AFLI Values that were drafted with input from the Fellows with the intention of articulating and encapsulating the values the Institute subscribes to and expects of itself and the Tutu Fellows. They capture, in summary, the leadership mindset and behavioural expectations we should collectively hold ourselves to.
They are:
Openness and Respect:
We bring curiosity and respect for every person’s perspective, with a willingness to share our own transparently. We cultivate self-awareness by giving and receiving candid feedback. We are committed to real dialogue that enables us to empathise with different points of view.
Integrity and Courage
We strive to lead with courageous authenticity – taking a stand for our truth, even under duress - always recognising that there is a time to act, and a time to withdraw. We cultivate the resilience to risk failure, and the courage to take accountability for our own failings.
Interconnectedness and Inclusion:
We recognise our interdependence and seek win-win outcomes. We commit to creating environments where all human beings, regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual preference, social status or cultural background, can thrive.
Passion and Positive Impact:
We engage with focussed energy and commitment in all that we do, living our full potential and inspiring others to do the same. We hold ourselves to account for having a positive impact in pursuit of our mission.
For Fellows: Log in to review the discussion during the process on Living the values and upholding the legacy.
