Job Title: CEO, Financing Alliance for Health

Professional History


Dr. Angela Gichaga is the CEO of Financing Alliance for Health. It serves Ministries of Health and Ministries of Finance globally in building resilient and sustainably financed health systems. It does so through increasing and better allocating existing resources while tapping into the private sector through innovative finance. She has a degree in Medicine, a Master’s in Health Economics and Policy, and a Fellowship in Public Sector Management. She has served as a clinician, health administrator, policymaker, academic, consultant, and government advisor.

Dr. Angela also serves as Board Member at Population Services International (PSI). Population Services International is a 501 registered nonprofit global health organization with programs targeting malaria, child survival, HIV, and reproductive health. PSI provides products, clinical services, and behavior change communications for the health of people in high-need populations.

She previously served the Ministry of Health in Kenya as a District Medical Officer of Health (DMOH) and a hospital in charge of both Meru and Garbatulla, leading ~150 multi-disciplinary team members. Dr. Angela then joined the Ministry of Health HQ, where she supported health financing policies, strategies, and initiatives.

Dr. Angela Gichaga was selected for the 2012 Australian Leadership Awards for Africa and President Obama’s Mandela Washington Fellowship in 2014 in recognition of her exemplary leadership within the civil service, and for her operational track record in achieving results.  From the civil service, she joined McKinsey & Company’s Africa Delivery Hub (ADH) working on socio-economic and development issues across Africa before joining Financing Alliance for Health. She was named one of Fortune's World’s Greatest Leaders in 2018.
