Job Title: CEO, Gabonese Sovereign Wealth Fund

Professional History


Akim is the CEO of the Gabonese Sovereign Wealth Fund. Prior to this, he was the Chief Investment Officer of the Sovereign Wealth Fund of the Gabonese Republic (SWF) which has as its mission securing a solid savings base for the future generations of Gabon. In his current role, he is responsible for leading the preparation of operational policies, corporate strategies, guidelines, and implementing new strategies and procedures that articulate the fund's investment objectives. This role has honed his ability to manage the SWF’s full portfolio of USD1.6 bn of assets through more than 100 investments across various sectors. He works closely with government entities, institutional investors, and private-sector champions on issues related to economic development, industrial growth, and transformation.

Additionally, Akim was appointed as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of a Gabon Power Company, an independent power producer. The company has a portfolio of USD 1 billion that includes adding onto the grid more than 200 MW; providing electricity to more than 80,000 households; and drinking water to more than 600,000 people across the country.  Akim sits on several boards and chairs the Board of Asonha Energy.  Asonha is a joint venture between Gabon Power Company and Meridiam to bridge the energy gap in Gabon.  Before joining the SWF, Akim co-founded Financiere Doukia, an investment boutique and commodities trading bank in West Africa. The company structured and secured transactions in the region. Prior to that, Akim began his career with Commerzbank in Frankfurt and with HSBC in Paris as a Manager for Structured Trade Finance. In those roles, he structured financings for major commodities trading players in the MENA region.

In 2018, Akim joined the prestigious Young Global Leaders community, the World Economic Forum’s community of the world brightest under 40. He was also selected by Forbes Africa among the Top 10 Choiseul 100 Africa, the Institute Choiseul’s ranking of young African Business Leaders under the age of 40 who are expected to play a transformative role in the continent’s economic development.  He is fluent in French and English.
