Job Title: Director, Content (Series & Film) Africa at Netflix

Professional History


Dorothy Ghettuba is the Director, Content (Series & Film) Africa at Netflix.  She was appointed to the position in January 2024.  It extends her role at the streaming giant, where previously she was the Director of Africa Originals Series, allowing her to further grow the huge African market for the streaming service as well as introduce African stories to the greater market.  Prior to that, she was the Manager of Africa Orignals Series at Netflix, where she started at the company in 2019.

She is also the Chair of the Kenya Film Commission, appointed by President Kenyatta in May 2019. The Commission was established in 2005 to develop a vibrant local film and TV industry and position Kenya as a preferred filming destination for sustainable wealth and job creation.

Prior to that, she was the CEO of Spielworks Media Ltd - which she co-founded - an East African regional leader in content creation, production, distribution, and broadcast. Spielworks has produced award-winning content: 15 TV shows, 10 web series, and more than 40 original African movies for TV, mobile, web, and video-on-demand platforms.

Dorothy was also the co-founder of NGOMA TV East Africa’s first online and mobile platform dedicated to streaming and as well as on-demand entertainment content. She also co-founded of Keja TV, an online subscription video on demand (SVOD) platform targeted at Africans in the Diaspora and on the continent. Through her companies, she has been dedicated to developing creative talent, creating quality content, and telling authentic African stories that resonate and engage audiences. Dorothy's honors include the Top 40 Under 40 Women in Kenya in 2011 and 2014 and a prominent selection as one of the Top 40 Under 40 Women in Film in Africa as well as Top 50 Business People in Kenya.

She is a Member of the National Advisory Council of the African Wildlife Foundation and a Board Memb of Onward Kenya.
