Job Title: Chief Executive Standard Bank's Wealth Division

Professional History


Peggy-Sue Khumalo is the Chief Executive for the Wealth division at Standard Bank. Upon starting in February 2019, she will be responsible for the South African operations of Standard Bank's wealth business, which includes short and long-term insurance, asset management, pension fund operations, and fiduciary services. The division serves high net-worth individuals, corporate clients, and commercial and retail clients. It has a footprint in a number of other Sub-Saharan Africa countries as well as international offices in London, Jersey, the Isle of Man, Mauritius, and the sum she will be responsible for will total around R175 billion in earnings.

Nonhlanhla Peggy-Sue Khumalo was offered a scholarship by the then State President, Mr. Nelson Mandela in collaboration with Stephen Koseff (CEO) of Investec Bank to study Economics at the University of Manchester, UK, following her win as Miss South Africa in 1996.  Prior to her studies, she ran her own PR and Communications company that boasted the likes of Anglo Americans as clients. After completing her Master's degree, Peggy-Sue joined Investec Bank UK in 2004 where she was a Fixed Income analyst focusing on credit analysis of the European telecommunications, media, and technology sectors.

She then joined Investec SA focusing predominantly on the public sector portfolio. She has received multiple accolades and her most recent appointment within Investec was to head up its Public Sector and BEE Financing. 

She founded the Peggy-Sue Khumalo Honorary Scholarship in partnership with the then CIDA City Campus, aimed at girls from rural communities.  Born to a single mother in KwaZulu Natal, she grew up on a farm where her mother was a domestic worker.  The scholarship she founded is a testament to her own desire as a girl to obtain an education. She continues to work with several charities, including Little Eden, Seeds of Africa, the Teddy Bear Foundation, and the Liliesleaf Trust.
