Professional History


Mitchell Elegbe is the Group Managing Director of Interswitch Limited, a leading integrated payment and transaction processing company in Africa. He was formerly with Schlumberger Wireline and Testing, and Telnet, an ICT engineering and consulting company until 2002, when he started Interswitch Group. While developing a program to implement SWIFT payments in Nigeria for Telnet, he found that interbank payments switches was the bottleneck, which led him to start up Interswitch. 

In 2012, he was awarded the West Africa Business Leader Award at the All African Business Leaders Awards (AABLA), organized by CNBC Africa. He is an Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award recipient and he won the Harvard Business School Association (Nigeria) Leadership Award in the General Management Category in 2015.  In 2020, he was named by The Africa Report as one of the Top 50 Disruptors of 2020.
