Professional History

Deo Arinaitwe Rugyendo is Founder and Director of Innovate Uganda, which he started in 2017.  It is a profiling and documentation site for works and discoveries by Ugandan scientists, technologists and innovators. Innovate Uganda is dedicated to documenting every innovation story, project and invention out of Uganda, with the sole purpose of exposing Ugandan scientists and innovators’ work to the world for improved media exposure and potential funders. The ultimate aim is a platform, repository and database for the critical mass of Ugandan innovators, their stories and projects.  The underlying goal for starting the site is to ultimately accelerate Uganda’s journey to First World status by showcasing those innovations sprouting across the country that have the potential for scientifically transforming the country.

Deo has also started up e2 Young Engineers Uganda, which is a Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) project run by the African School of Innovations, Science and Technology (ASIST) in partnership with e2 Young Engineers Israel. The STEM project targets children aged by equipping them with practical skills in STEM with the aim of nurturing the next generation of Ugandan scientists, innovators, entrepreneurs and inventors. It also uses problem-based learning skills to shape children’s thinking around science, technology and innovations - skills highly-needed for the transformation of Africa.

Deo also started the African School of Entrepreneurship & Social Transformation (ASSET). It aims to teach practical skills to Ugandan youth to enable them to find jobs quickly or create their own jobs. It will teach them job skills, leadership and life skills and award a diploma after 18 months.

Prior to this, Deo worked as a journalist with the Daily Monitor and then went on to start up Red Pepper Publications.  He is also a Crans Montana Forum New Leader.
