Fellow selected as a WEF 2018 Young Global Leader

2017 Tutu Fellow Natalie Jabangwe has been selected by the World Economic Forum as a 2018 Young Global Leader.  She joins one hundred of the world’s most promising artists, business leaders, public servants, technologists and social entrepreneurs in their community of Young Global Leaders. The honour goes beyond just being selected for a list.  Natalie joins both a community in a five-year programme that will challenge them to think beyond their scope of expertise and be more impactful leaders.

Fellows attend the WEF Conference in Durban

A number of Tutu Fellows attended the 2017 World Economic Forum, which was held in Durban, South Africa, this year, as Young Global Leaders with the WEF; in their personal capacities; or as invited speakers. Thirty seven Tutu Fellows are Young Global Leaders. More than a thousand people attended the event from more than 100 countries, including many leaders and several heads of state.

The Fellows included Victor Ochen, Bright Simons, Monica Musonda, Landry Signe, and others.  2008 Tutu Fellow Elsie Kanza is also to be congratulated for the event as Senior Director and Head of Africa at WEF.

Conteh selected as a 2016 Social Entrepreneur of the Year

Conteh selected as a 2016 Social Entrepreneur of the Year

One of the candidates participating in the 2017 Tutu Leadership Programme, Sonkita Conteh, has been selected by the Schwab Foundation, in partnership with the World Economic Forum as a Social Entrepreneur of the Year awardee for 2016.  The Schwab Foundation drafts the list annually from a global pool of candidates.  The annual selection usually comprises about 20-25 people who join the 260 social entrepreneurs in a global network that fosters the peer-to-peer exchange of ideas.  The foundation works closely with the World Economic Forum to integrate their awardees into regional and global meetings of the WEF.

Five Fellows on WEF 2016 Young Global Leaders' list

The World Economic Forum has announced the 2016 Young Global Leaders.  Of the 11 selected by the WEF, five are Tutu Fellows and Associates, a powerful affirmation of the impact of the African Leadership Institute's programs.



WEF describes their list of Young Global Leaders as 'Brilliant scientists. Emerging entrepreneurs. Tech investors. Activist MPs' that represent the most innovative, enterprising and socially minded men and women under the age of 40 who are pushing boundaries and rethinking the world around them. WEF says that this year’s class of Leaders gives hope to tackle the world’s most complex and pressing challenges.  In addition to being honored by their selection, they will also be offered a five-year leadership journey to break down silos, bridge cultures and use their collective skills to get things done for positive impact across private, public and civil society organizations.

The five Tutu Fellows named among this year's Young Global Leaders:
