Tutu Fellow commemorates two African Icons through fashion

2014 Tutu Fellow and Founder of the KISUA fashion brand, Samuel Mensah, this year embarked in two major collaborations to celebrate and honour the centenary legacies of Nelson Mandela and Albertina Sisulu.

Kisua, together with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, launched the 466/64 clothing line, which derives its name from Madiba’s prison number to commemorate what would have been Mandela’s 100th birthday. Sam’s collaborative project began four years ago when he met Sello Hatang, the current CEO of the foundation, when they were both part of the Class of 2014 Tutu Fellowship Programme in 2014.

Fellow secures Obama for 16th Mandela Annual Lecture

2014 Tutu Fellow Sello Hatang has secured the former President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, to deliver the 16th Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture. President Obama, who made an emotional address at Mandela’s funeral years after meeting him in 2005, will speak at the lecture marking 100 years since the anti-apartheid icon was born.  The Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture is one of the Foundation’s flagship programmes to honour its founder, Nelson Mandela. Every year since 2003, global leaders have used the lecture to raise topical issues affecting South Africa, Africa and the rest of the world.

The 'servant leader' - Archbishop Tutu's Mandela Day message

African Leadership Institute patron, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, recorded an inspirational message for the 2015 Mandela Day. Mandela Day is an annual day, celebrating the former South African President, Nelson Mandela's birthday. In his message, he showed how Nelson Mandela's approach of servant leadership could be a model for all to follow.
